The BarFlys spent Christmas at the parent’s house and Mom created a perfect holiday cocktail that evoked the look and taste of Christmas in a glass.
The basic ingredients are Gin, Tequila, Cranberry Mint Syrup, and Sweet Lime Juice:
Christmas Cocktail
1 oz. Gin
1 oz. Tequila
1/2 oz. Cranberry Mint Simple Syrup (see recipe below)
1/2 oz. Sweet Lime Juice (or a mixture of lemon and lime juices)
Candied cranberries, mint leaves and sweet lime slices for garnish
Add all ingredients (except the garnish) with ice into a mixing glass. Shake or stir, then strain into a lowball glass with a few ice cubes. Skewer 3 of the candied cranberries and add to the glass along with s slice of the sweet lime and a palm-slapped mint leaf.
Cranberry Mint Syrup
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup of fresh cranberries
2-3 sprigs of mint leaves
Bring sugar and water to a boil in a small saucepan. Lower heat and stir constantly until sugar is dissolved (2-3 minutes). Remove from the heat, add cranberries and mint leaves. Let it steep and cool completely (about 20-30 minutes). The strained syrup can be kept in the refrigerator up to a month. Use the candied cranberries as garnish.
